Professor Sandi Lane Interviewed about Reducing Medication Errors

Sandi LaneProfessor Lane was interviewed by Elder Branch about her work on reducing medication errors in nursing homes. The whole interview can be found on the ElderBranch website. The following is an excerpt:

"Is our culture such that we embrace the report of a near miss or an error or is it perceived as punitive? Much of the research shows that if we are open and communicate, and we want to learn, then the reporting of errors can be seen as an opportunity to learn and improve those processes. If we see the reporting of errors as punitive or a potential legal concern then the openness and willingness of staff is going to close right down. So we have to look not only at formal processes but also at what our culture says about the reporting of any type of error."
